Patsy Fisher Cannon (Nanny) passed away July 23, 2015 at The Oaks on Limestone where she resided since sustaining a fall in April. She was cared for kindly and gently by the staff and was blessed to have several roommates who watched over her as they shared a room. Her feistiness showed through at times but her wink and smile always returned.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Howard Cannon (Papa), daughter-in-law Pam Cannon and her granddaughter Kelly Cannon and grandson Matt Minor. Survivors include: daughter Jimmie Minor of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law Dickie and Laurie Cannon of Cleveland; grandson and wife Nathan and Sara Minor of Gainesville; grandson Daniel Cannon of Cleveland; great-grandchildren Kristen Minor, Anna Minor, Matthew Minor, Scott Abel, Sean Abel, and Nick Minor all of Gainesville. Special friends from the Blue Ridge Camping Club were a big part of life for a number of years as were special neighbors Frances Lovell and Merle Caldwell.
Pat attended Tift College and later married and settled in Clayton, Ga. After the children arrived, the family moved to Gainesville for Dickie to attend visually impaired classes in Gainesville City Schools. Pat became an unofficial parent mentor by helping to translate and write Braille. She also worked and eventually retired from Sears after working in Catalog and the Hub and spent the remaining years staying at their campsite in Blairsville or working around the house, especially outside. Each year in July, many hours were spent picking blueberries that lined the driveway in order to freeze them or give them away. She will be missed.
Family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 2:00-5:00 with burial to follow at Alta Vista Cemetery.
