Donald Shirley, age 74, of Alto, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015 at his residence.
Born on July 2, 1941, in Rabun County, he was a son of the late Jesse Vandiver and Fannie Mae Moore Shirley. He was retired from Scovill Manufacturing and was a member of Line Baptist Church. Mr. Shirley was a Baptist minister who evangelized in the Northeast Georgia area for a number of years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and animals, especially his pet rooster, Rojo. He also enjoyed helping others and could fix or repair almost anything. He loved his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, J.V. Shirley; sisters, Louise Lovell, Evelyn Dockins and Virginia Hamilton.
Survivors include wife of 48 years, Eunice Burns Shirley of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Anderson of Eastanollee; daughter, Sandy Shirley of Alto; grandchildren, Megan Waddell of Alto, Morgan Myers (Brandi) of Demorest, Jerrica Anderson and Jayley Anderson both of Eastanollee; great grandchildren, Kash and Sawyer Waddell both of Clarkesville; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Cathy Shirley of Erwin, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Faye Shirley of Otto, North Carolina; brother-in-law and spouse, Paul and Sara Hamilton of Easley, South Carolina;
Funeral services are 11 am on Monday, July 27, 2015, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Alvin Burns and Rev. Charles McEntire officiating. Interment will follow in Line Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post 7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post 84, the Rabun County DAV Chapter 15 and the Georgia National Guard.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 & 7-9 pm on Sunday, at the funeral home.
