Woodrow Woody Bryson

Obituary Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Woodrow Woody Bryson, 75, of Cumming went home to his Savior on Monday, July 20, 2015.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Cumming Baptist Church, 115 Church Street, Cumming. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory, 210 Ingram Ave, Cumming.

Woody was born in Cullowhee, North Carolina, August 4, 1939. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the National Guard Reserve in North Carolina. Woody moved to Texas where he met his wife Sarah at the age of 20. In 1962 he was called into Active Duty with the U. S. Army just one month after he married Sarah. He served his country proudly until 1963. After being honorably discharged Woody became a Dad to a baby girl, Ginger. In 1963 Woody and his family moved back to Cullowhee, NC, and he attended trade school to become a brick mason. Woody and Sarah had a son, Mark, in 1965.

Work was more plentiful in Georgia, so he and his family moved to Georgia in 1969. Woody worked as a brick mason for 40 years. During those years they had another son, David, (1975 – 1988), and a daughter Shelly in 1981. Woody was very proud of his trade and his family.

After he retired he was an active member of the Masons and Shriner’s. Fishing was one of his favorites.  No matter what the weather, it was always a good day for fishing. Woody also enjoyed mowing his lawn and growing a small vegetable garden each year. He always took pride in whatever he did. He enjoyed going to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and visiting the children there. He enjoyed it as much as the kids did. Anyone that knew Woody knows he liked his automobiles clean and loud. Woody was also a charter member of Cumming Baptist Church.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Married for 53 years, he is survived by wife Sarah E. Bryson of Cumming, GA, daughter Ginger B. Short and her husband Todd W. Short of Bryson City, NC, son Mark W. Bryson and his wife Charlina M. Bryson of Cumming, and daughter, Shelly B. Owen and her husband Jeremy T. Owen of Ellenboro, NC., grandkids Daniel W. Bryson, Amanda J. Hurt, Payton D. Cox. Great-grand kids Mason W. Hurt, Tilton J. Hurt, Elania M. Hurt, Sarah E. Bryson and Rocky S. Whalen; two brothers, Fred and Lester Bryson and their families, and many extended family and Friends.
