Mrs. Dorothy Virginia Stancil Ayers, age 80 of 105 Jenkins Ferry Road, Martin passed away Saturday July 18, 2015 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
A daughter of the late James Julian and Nettie Massey Stancil, she was born May 21, 1935 in Stephens County, Georgia where she lived all her life. She was employed with the Stephens County School System for a number of years. She was a member of Mullins Ford Baptist Church, the Ladies SS Class and the WMU and served as church secretary and Sunday School Teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Ayers in 2014, by a daughter, Karen Gordan and by a brother, Harry Stancil.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Patty Ayers of Martin, Georgia; brother, Frank Stancil of Martin, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Stancil of Toccoa, Lenora Walters of Martin, Wilma Davis of Lavonia and Nancy Peeples of Canon; number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 22, 11 O’clock PM in the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Joey Stewart and The Reverend Truitt Brawner officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Wayne Stancil, Bill Sosebee, Coby Stancil, Jack Colvin, Johnny Cheek and Bradley Cleveland.
The family will be at the home on Jenkins Ferry Road and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, 3 PM to 5 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM.
Flowers are to be omitted. Memorials may be made to the Ladies SS Class or the WMU, c/o Mullins Ford Baptist Church, P.O. Box 65, Martin, Georgia 30577 in memory of Mrs. Dorothy Stancil Ayers.
Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Roger Elrod officiating. Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Dorothy Stancil Ayers.
