Mrs. Buna Murphy Buffington, age 84, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully following a period of declining health on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at her residence with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Gillsville with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Reverend Marshall Dale will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Friday, July 17, 2015 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Buffington was born June 1, 1931, Pendergrass, Georgia, the daughter of the late William Murphy and Eliza Skelton Murphy. She was one of 10 children. Mrs. Buffington worked at Chicopee for 29 years. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Gillsville. She married the late Allen Buffington on June 18, 1949. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jack Buffington and four brothers and four sisters.
For many years, she enjoyed her home garden and served many meals with her famous sweet iced tea. No matter what her efforts and energy were put into, there was always one end goal and that was helping and loving her family. Her last physical efforts were working on an early Christmas list for her great-grandchildren. Buna lived her faith, not missing a Lebanon Church Camp Meeting from 1949 until her health failed in 2014.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Scottie and Linda Buffington of Gainesville; Gary and Lynda Buffington also of Gainesville; daughter, Trixie Boulware of Dahlonega; chosen son and wife Tony and Laura Herrington of Gainesville; granddaughter and husband, Jennifer and Billy Hollingsworth of Gainesville; granddaughter, Maegan Buffington, Duluth; granddaughter & husband, Katie & Steven Leonard of Cumming; granddaughter & husband, Jennifer and John Davis of Johns Creek; grandson, Scott Buffington, Gainesville; grandson and wife, Britt and Anneke Lothridge of Decatur; grandson& wife, Tim and Suzanne Boulware of Dahlonega; 11 great-grandchildren, sister Clara Thomas, Louisville, GA and a special friend Ruth Allen and a number of other family and friends also survive.
The family would like to thank Halcyon Hospice for holding our mother’s hand and ours through these difficult times. The children would like to thank the late P.A. Whatley for the kindnesses he showed to our family.
