Stephen L. Maxson

Obituary Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Stephen L. Maxson, age 65, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 after a 12 month battle with cancer.  He had the opportunity during the last month of his life to spend time with the family and friends whom he loved.

Steve was born on February 27, 1950 in Pahokee, Florida to Leonard and Bertie Maxson.  He graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. in Marine Biology where he met and ultimately married the love his life, Bonnie Kaplan.  After graduation the couple moved from Tallahassee to the Atlanta area where they lived in Alpharetta, Smyrna and Flowery Branch.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished time with his family.

Steve was employed with Parker Hannifin for the past 15 years where he worked as a technical trainer, traveling the country doing presentations on the subject of air conditioning principles and techniques.

Steve had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to laugh at himself -- always with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face even in the final weeks of his life. He was a hands-on guy who could create objects of beauty through his exquisite nature photography, magnificent yard and skillfully crafted pieces of furniture.  Steve loved nature and all its bounty and especially enjoyed sharing his knowledge of birds, flowers and wildlife with his family.

Steve is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughters Allison Vernon (Nick) and Rachel Godwin(Lee); grandchildren Sierra, Stephen, Kaitlyn and Lexi; sister Carolyn Milita (Dale) and brother Bill Maxson (Susan); many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loving, lifelong friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 25, 2015 at the Sterling on the Lake Clubhouse in Flowery Branch, GA at 12 noon.
