Dr. Kameswara Rao Voleti

Dr. Kameswara Rao Voleti, 74, passed away in Johns Creek, GA on July 12th, 2015. He was born in Parvatipuram, India on Dec 8, 1940; lived in Mumbai, India (22 years), Ruston, LA (3 years), New Orleans, LA (17 years), and Atlanta, GA (6 years). He was preceded in death by his parents, Voleti Kurmavatharam and Sitalakshmi; and his four elder brothers, Krishnamurthy, SankaraSastry, Ramalingaswamy, Venugopal, and elder sister, Venkataramana.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Subbalakshmi Kanyakumari Voleti; a son Srinivas Sanjay Voleti and his wife, Anita Viswanathan of Mountain View, California; 2 grandchildren, Isha Lakshmi Voleti and Arjun Voleti; and elder brother Dharma Rao, elder sister Sitarathnam, younger brother Muralidhara Rao and numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.

Dr. Voleti was a graduate of Andhra University in Visakhapatnam, India where he completed both a B.Sc Hons and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry.  During his career, he worked at BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre - SF) performing nuclear research for 22 years and produced more than 50 scientific publications on chemistry and radiochemistry topics in internationally recognized journals.  After migrating to the US, he taught at Grambling State University as an Assistant Professor (Chemistry) for 3 years.  He then worked Louisiana State Office of Public Health – Central Laboratory for 17 years as a Supervisor/Research Associate.  Finally, he concluded his career at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NCEH Labs as a Research Chemist for 6 years.

Dr. Kameswara Rao Voleti was very interested in Telugu literature, poetry, old film songs, music, tennis, and in reading the Bhagavatam and other Hindu religious texts. He loved listening to old classical songs and singing Ghantasala’s songs was his favorite pastime. He enjoyed spending time with his family and travelling overseas with his wife.

A funeral service will be held at MacDonald and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Cumming, Georgia on Wednesday, July 15 at 1PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vegesna Foundation whose noble mission is to serve disabled children in rural India.
