Jerry Henry Bourg, 82, died in Cumming, GA. on July 11th, 2015. He was a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; lived in Diamondhead, Mississippi for 27 years; and in Cumming, Georgia for two years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile Joseph Bourg, Sr. and Mable Elizabeth Thompson Bourg; and his brothers, Emile Joseph Bourg, Jr.; John Ronald (Red) Bourg; and James (Jimmy) Bourg.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marie Hilda Levy Bourg; a daughter Denise Marie Bourg Curtis and her husband, Shannon Taylor Curtis of Broadway, North Carolina; a son, Kevin Lee Bourg and his wife Dawn Alys Delhomme Bourg of Alpharetta, Georgia; 3 grandchildren, Zachary John Bourg, Delaney Corinne Bourg and Bradan Henry Bourg; a sister, Jean Bourg Ellis and her husband James Ellis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University and graduated from the Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Jerry was a devout Catholic and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus member. He retreated annually with Group 50 of “Men of Manresa” at the Jesuit Manresa Retreat House in Covent, Louisiana. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a retired scientist with the United State Naval Oceanographic Office.
He has served as District Chairman of the Cyprus District Boy Scouts of America; Goodwill of South Mississippi Advisory Board; member of the Clement R. Bontemps Post #139 of the American Legion; the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2880 in Diamondhead, Mississippi; Charter Member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter of the Marine Corps League; Charter Member and Board Member of the Central Hancock Rotary Club. He was Rotarian of the year in 2008-2009.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Cumming, Georgia on Friday, July 17th at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends and family at the Church beginning at 2:00 PM.
Interment will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
