David 'Sy' Goodwin

Major David “Sy” Goodwin, age 49, of Cumming, GA died July 4, 2015.

David was very patriotic and served his country in the U.S. Army. He served during Desert Storm and received numerous decorations and awards. He was a graduate of North Georgia College where he was a member of the Blue Ridge Rifles. He enjoyed hunting and other outdoor activities.  He was  a cigar aficionado. He loved being with his children and grandchildren.

David was the son of the late David Eugene Goodwin and Lizzie Dowdy Goodwin and was also preceded in death by children, Richard Samuel Goodwin and Ana Faith Goodwin.

He is survived by children, Jonathan and Stephanie Goodwin, Lakeland, FL, Richard Goodwin, Gracie Goodwin, and Ada Goodwin, all of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Logan, Landon, and Levi Goodwin; sisters, Cindi Allen and Bonnie Davis. A number of other relatives also survive.

Services are scheduled for 1 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega, GA on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 9:30 AM until 11 AM.
