Mrs. Betty Ann Shirley Lawson, age 85, of 762 Rock Creek Road, Toccoa, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A daughter of the late Robert Lee and Maggie Bell Farmer Shirley, she was born November 28, 1929 in Franklin County, Georgia and lived most of her life in Stephens County. She was a graduate of Lavonia High School, attended Anderson College, and was a legal secretary and homemaker. Mrs. Lawson was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Toccoa where she was elected as Deacon and was Church Woman of the Year. Mrs. Lawson will be remembered for her heart of service and volunteering in many community and church groups. Mostly, she will be remembered for her food ministry, as she blessed many people in the community with pound cakes, vegetable soup, and chicken pie.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Howell Lawson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Charles Worthy of Toccoa; a son, Billy Lawson of Toccoa; grandchildren, Katherine and Frank Moreland, Peyton Hanson, Corey Lawson, Leah Hanson, and Craig Lawson; step-grandchildren, Chas Worthy, Matt Worthy, Victoria Worthy, and Allie Worthy; a great grandchild, Reese Moreland; and a special “adopted” grandchild, Yadelis Robayna.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29th, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Toccoa with The Reverend David Ritcey and The Reverend Dr. Henry Fields officiating.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers and will please assemble at Acree-Davis Funeral Home by 10:00 AM Monday: Mark Ivester, Tim Hale, John Wheeler, Steve Alligood, Harold Atkinson, and George Hosea. Honorary Escort will be Deacons of First Baptist Church and will please assemble at the First Baptist Church by 10:40 AM Monday.
The family will be at the home of Laura and Charles Worthy, 686 Rock Creek Road, Toccoa, and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 4 PM until 6 PM.
Flowers are to please be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Toccoa First Baptist Church “Go to Grow” Building Fund in memory of Mrs. Betty Lawson.
Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
