Daniel Everett Bettis

Obituary Date: Wednesday, June 24, 2015

Daniel Everett Bettis was born March 7, 1922 and passed at the age of 93 on June 24, 2015. He was an incredible father, "Popa", husband, brother, son and friend to many in his community known as "Midway" in the Alpharetta/Cumming, Georgia area. Hereinafter he will be referred to as "Popa".

Popa made his mark on the community in many ways that will never be forgotten. He grew up to follow his father, the late Carter Grady Bettis, in running the community's first general store that had shopping carts. This was a big deal back then! Everett Bettis' General Store later became Wood Ace Hardware X's 3 under the ownership of his then son-in-law Jerry Wood. Popa retired January 1, 1980 to pursue his next passion in life, antique and classic car collecting. He was known as one of the most well respected men in the industry and sold cars all over the world on his word alone.

Popa married the love of his life, the late Marjorie Louise Bettis, when he was 19 and they had 66 wonderful years together. A true love story. Popa was an active member of Longstreet Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. In 1961, he and two other members of the community donated the 10 acres of land where Midway Elementary School is now. He cared about his community and was very active and served as chairman of his local bank, Chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Education and County Hospital Authority among many others. Popa wore many hats in the community and in the lives that he touched throughout his 93 years but his legacy will always be his love and dedication to his family, his friends and his community.

It is with great sadness and emptiness that we have to say goodbye to this man that has always been the "Co-Rock" (with Granny by his side!) of our family. However, it is with great joy and excitement at the thought of his being with his love again. I have to ask....."Popa, is Heaven everything you thought it would be?"

Popa is survived by his daughter, Joy Bettis, of Dahlonega, GA, his sister, Evelyn Bagley of Cumming, GA, grandchildren Andrea Hogan of Cumming, GA, and David Wood of Dahlonega, GA, and great-grandchildren, Tyler Hogan of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and Trey Hogan of Cumming, Ga.

Rest in peace Popa.  You are finally home.
