Emma Lula Peck Morgan died on June 25, 2015 after a twenty-year struggle with cancer. The daughter of the late Rosa Minor Peck and Claud Peck Jr., she was born on July 9, 1938, and lived in Griffin and Gainesville, Georgia for most of her life.
Emma was graduated from Gainesville High School in 1956, and received her BA in music from Carson-Newman University, Jefferson City, Tennessee in 1960. At Carson-Newman she sang with the touring choir, served in the Baptist Student Union, and was President of the Hypacian Literary Society.
After graduation from college, Emma taught Public School Music for three years and directed the high school chorus in Charleston, Indiana. For years she devoted herself to graded children’s choir programs and was a life-long member of the Choristers’ Guild. She traveled extensively with the Jubalheirs of Georgia Baptists singing concerts in Italy and Germany in their ministry of music and missions.
Emma was married for 54 years to Bruce M. Morgan, veteran pastor, and his chief source of encouragement and inspiration.
Emma is survived by her husband Bruce, two children, Ruth Morgan Reynolds and husband Reid Reynolds of Huntsville, Alabama. Nathan B. Morgan and wife Lisa King Morgan of Washington, D.C. She was known as “Emmie” by her granddaughters Meredith Rose Morgan and Emma Christine Morgan.
She is also survived by her brother William Henry (Bill) Peck and his wife Linda McClure Peck, and nephews Jason Peck and Ashley Peck.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 27th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Little Davenport Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held in Alta Vista Cemetery on Sunday, June 28th at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bruce Fields followed by a Memorial Service in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street, Gainesville on Sunday, June 28th at 3:30 pm with Dr. William Coates officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church New Music Suite, and sent to the church at 751 Green Street, NW. Gainesville, Georgia 30501.
