Modree Grogan Bowers

Obituary Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2015

Modree Grogan Bowers, age 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015.          

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 am Friday, June 12, 2015 in the Chapel of Gainesville First Baptist Church. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the funeral home. Interment will be at New Hope Baptist Church in Juno, Georgia.
           
Modree was born December 31, 1925, daughter of the late Homer Grogan and Anice Parks Grogan. She was a native of Dawson County but made her home in Gainesville. Her parent’s purchased Ronald’s in downtown Gainesville in 1948 where she worked with her family until she opened her own store, Modree’s at Sherwood Plaza in 1965. After 50 years in retail, Modree retired in 1998.
           
Modree was a long time member of First Baptist Church, and an active Alumni of Brenau University and the University of Georgia. She served as President of the Gainesville Hall County Federated Music Club and enjoyed membership in the 20th Century Study Club. Throughout her career she presented numerous fashion shows for community organizations and clubs. She also lectured in classes at Brenau on Fashion Merchandising.
           
She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Edgar Maury Bowers; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy Grogan Clegg and Shirley Grogan Strong and Charlie Strong, Jr., and  Billy Wallace.
           
Modree is survived by her children and their spouses, Rosalind Bennett, Claudia and Robbie McLeod, Richard and Cindy Bowers; sister, Joyce Grogan Wallace; brother’s and their spouses, Keith and Lida Grogan and Rex and Mildred Grogan; brother-in-law and spouse, Bud and Dale Clegg; grandchildren and spouses, Andy and Kelli Allred, Peyton Sharpe, Erin Davis, Meg and Justin Middleton, Zach Bennett, Sam and Emily Bowers; and great-grandchildren, Maricarter and Addison Allred and many nieces and nephews.
