Charles Neil Kelley

Obituary Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2015

 

Charles Neil Kelley (“Neil”), age 76, passed away on June 9, 2015 after an extended illness.  Neil is the son of Charlie and Frances Kelley of Loganville, Georgia.

Neil is predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Frances Kelley, his wife, Molly Kelley, and grandson, Patrick Kelley.  He is survived by his wife, Allene Kelley, son and daughter- in-law, Charles and Cheryl Kelley of Gainesville, son, Michael Kelley of Gainesville, brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Tina Kelley of Loganville, stepson and daughter-in-law, Todd and Joanna West, and grandsons Christopher Kelley, Andrew Kelley, and Luke West.

Neil was a native of Loganville, Georgia.  He graduated from Georgia Military Academy in 1957, where he was Regimental Commander.  He attended Wake Forest College, where he was a member of the ROTC Corps of Cadets. He graduated in 1962 as a Distinguished Military Graduate and received his commission from the United States Army. He attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, and graduated in 1966.  He transferred to the United States Air Force and served in the Air Force Medical Corp at Rhein-Main Air Force Base near Frankfurt, Germany. 

Dr. Kelley returned to the States in 1970 where he completed his medical training in Atlanta.  He and his family settled in Gainesville in 1973, when Dr. Kelley joined the Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic, specializing in pulmonology and internal medicine.  Dr. Kelley happily practiced in Gainesville until his retirement in 1998.  He served for many years on the board of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and as its Chief of Staff in 1988.

Dr. Kelley was an avid gardener and loved music.  He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he sung in the choir for many years.

Funeral services will be at 11am on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville, Georgia.  The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of Music at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville, Georgia.
