James Eugene Glaze, Sr., 80, of Cumming, GA died on June 4, 2015 surrounded by his family. Born in Doraville, GA he was the son of the late Herman and Kate Glaze. His son, James Glaze, Jr. and brother, Ray E. Glaze also predeceased him.
James was raised in Doraville and attended Chamblee High School. He married Jane Cown of Tucker in 1956. They lived on Glaze drive until 1998 where they raised their five children.
James’ parents, HT and Kate Glaze, started Glaze’s Grocery in the 1930’s on Peeler Road. In 1963, James bought the business with his brother Ralph. James was a butcher until the mid 70’s when he opened Glaze’s True Value Hardware. He started a second hardware store on Hwy 141 in Cumming in 1980 which his son, Mark, still runs today. The store is known for such a wide selection of items that people come for miles to shop. James was known for his great conversations.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Jane Cown Glaze of Cumming, GA; sons, Randy J. (Lee) Glaze of Flowery Branch, GA and Mark T. (Kathy Hunt) Glaze of Cumming, GA; daughters, Terri (Ray) Weeks of Dunwoody, GA and Jennifer Glaze Dupont of Norcross, GA; eight grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice Glaze Coker of Greensboro, GA, Katherine Glaze Bostic of McDonough, GA and Martha Glaze Buice of Buford, GA; and brother, Ralph (Joyce) Glaze of Peachtree Corners, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 7, 2015 in the chapel of McDonald and Son. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Tucker, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 5 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm and on Saturday, June 6 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm.
