John Sosebee

Mr. John Winfred Sosebee, age 86 of 129 Rider Road, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Stephens County Hospital.

A son of the late Oscar and Lola Ellard Sosebee, he was born November 1, 1928 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all his life.  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, retired from The City of Toccoa as Utilities Director with over 30 years of public service and,  a member of Old Toccoa Baptist Church and a gentlemen farmer.  He was a member of the State Board of Directors for Water and Wastewater Treatment and the Habersham EMC Board of Directors.  He was involved in masonry activities with Toccoa Lodge #309 F&AM (Free and Accepted), Toccoa Chapter #294 Order of the Eastern Star, Toccoa Chapter #21 RAM, E.L. McConnell Council #40 R&SM, Philemon Commandry #33 Knights Templar, Yaarab Shrine and Cherokee Rose Priory #56 KYCH.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth King Sosebee in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Otha Murray of Toccoa; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Marty Sosebee of Dallas, Texas, Randy and Kathy Sosebee and Michael and Ellie Sosebee both of Toccoa; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 27, 11 O’clock AM in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend Frank Bearden and The Reverend Roger Elrod officiating.  Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, John Michael Sosebee, Mark Sosebee, Matt Sosebee, Caleb Murray, Joshua Murray and Samuel Duncan, Jr..

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM. 

Interment will be in the Old Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites.  Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. John Winfred Sosebee.
