Ernie (N.S) Chapman

Mr. Ernie (N.S) Chapman, age 76, of Gainesville, GA passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015. He was a native of Winn, Alabama, born May 17, 1939 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Brice (Sylvia) Chapman.  Ernie has two sisters, Mrs. Delilah Jackson of Thomasville, AL, and Mrs. Margaret (Renee) Manfugas of Commerce, GA;  brother, Mr. Clyde (Grace) Chapman of Bessemer, AL. 

On October, 13, 2000, Ernie married his sweetheart Catherine "Cathy" Chapman and the two were inseparable.  They worked side-by-side in their church and in their vegetable garden.

Ernie will always be cherished by his family; daughter, Ms. Donna Chapman;  sons, Mr. and Mrs. Dwon (LeQuitta) Johnson, and Mr. Chewbacca Johnson; mother-in-law, Mrs. Grace Mahaffey; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Emily (Danny) Watkins, Mrs. Sandra (Michael) Thompson, and Ms. Pamela Glasper;  brothers-in-law, Mr. Preston (Gloria) Mahaffey, Jr., Mr. Christopher (Nicole) Mahaffey and Mr. Jeffery Mahaffey. A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

As a member of Mountain Lake Church of Gainesville, Ernie served as a Greeter. In 2002, Ernie retired as a truck driver. Ernie was a man of great strength and was an inspiration to all who knew him.  He was a family man. He loved nature, his cats and dogs, and was an avid gardener.  Most of all, Ernie loved The Lord.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brice (Sylvia) Chapman; siblings, Viola, Nyreen, Mary Alice, Brown Chapman, Sr., Elmo and Levone.

Funeral services for Mr. Chapman are scheduled for 2 PM Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA.

Rev. Shad Treadway, Rev. Brown Chapman, and Rev. Michael Thompson will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Hillside Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Gainesville, GA.

The family will receive friends at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home in Gainesville from 10 AM until time of service on Sunday, May 24, 2015.

Repast will be held at the home of Ms. Grace Mahaffey, 2853 Shady Lane Drive, Gainesville, GA 30507.
