Mrs. Nancy Adams Thompson, age 75, of Gainesville, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 folowing an extended illness.
Mrs. Thompson was born July 4, 1939 in Gainesville, Ga to the late Alfred Charles Adams, Sr. and the late Ruby Rigsby Adams.
As a graduate of Gainesville High School, she was a class officer, varsity cheerleader and named Miss Freshman. She then went on to Brenau College where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1961. During her time at Brenau, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, attaining the award for best pledge as a freshman.
After teaching for 33 years, with the last 30 being at Lyman Hall Elementary School, she retired in 1998.
She was a loving wife of 54 years. The best mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren who were always very special to her. She loved them with all her heart and they loved her more than words could ever describe. She was and always will be the heart and soul of the family.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, John Cheney Thompson, Jr., her daughter, Kelly Thompson McGee, her son and daughter-in-law, John Charles Thompson, Sr. and Kimberly Brock Thompson, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kevin and Mandi Lora, her grandson, John Charles "Chase" Thompson, Jr., her brother, Alfred Charles Adams Jr., her niece and niece's husband, Ashley Adams Hafstead and Marc Hafstead, and her cousin, Jane Shockley.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 26 from 6-8 pm at Little Davenport Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at The First Baptist Church on Green St. in Gainesville, Ga Wednesday, May 27 at 10am. Dr. Bill Coats will officiate the service. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
