William E. “Junior” Garrett, 85, of Dawsonville passed away Monday May 18, 2015 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born January 21, 1930 to the late William E. and Lula Garrett, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Affectionately known as “Papa June Bug”, Junior retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 20 years of service. He was a former volunteer fire fighter and was a founding member of the Kilough Community Club. He was a deacon of Harmony Baptist Church and enjoyed reading western books, movies and was an avid NASCAR fan. Mr. Garrett was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Juanita Couch Garrett; daughters, Linda Garrett Ramirez, Sharon Garrett, Denise Garrett; son in law, Johnny Waters; sisters, Hattie Grace Wallace, Mescal Little, Nadine Lynn, Winnie Brookshire; brothers Kenneth Garrett, Leamon Garrett and Holmes Garrett.
Surviving are his daughter, Eva “Jo” Waters, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, William E. “Bill”, III and Elaine Garrett, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Melissa and Patrick McDougal, Wendy and Jeremy McGinnis, Michael Ramirez, Emma Garrett, Chris Garrett; great grandchildren, Katie McDougal, Sarah McDougal, Sydney McGinnis, Ben McGinnis, Ryan McGinnis; brothers and sisters in law, Leland and Norma Jean Garrett, Dawsonville, Wayne and Louise Garrett, Gainesville; sisters and brothers in law, Pat and Dean Couch, Dawsonville, Bobbie Holland, Dawsonville, Ferman Brookshire, Gainesville; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 20, 2015 at 2 o’clock at Harmony Baptist Church. Rev. Tony Holtzclaw and Rev. C. B. Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in Moss Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 until 8 at the funeral home.
