Christopher Joseph Walker, Jr. M.D

Christopher Joseph Walker, Jr. M.D.  (Kit) passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at his home.

Dr. Walker is preceded in death by his parents Christopher Joseph Walker, Sr. and Berty May Baker Walker.

He was born in 1928 in Albertville, AL and attended Albertville High School. He then went on to The University of Alabama and Emory University Medical School.  He then served in the 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. After completing his military service he moved to Gainesville, Ga to set up his private medical practice in 1956 and served as Chief of Staff of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in 1976. After his retirement in 1993, he lived on his farm and raised cattle, traveled, and enjoyed time with his family.

Dr. Walker was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church - Gainesville having joined in 1956 and served as an elder. He was a charter member of the Chattahoochee Country Club and a long time previous member of the Gainesville Kiwanis Club.  He had four great loves besides family and friends. He loved being a doctor as well as golfing, bird hunting and fishing. He will be long remembered for his great sense of humor as well.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Grant Walker, a sister, Martha Evans (Guntersville AL), four children; daughter Lane Hutchins (Hutch) of Augusta, GA, daughter Becky Bedford (Tom) of Dallas, TX; son Chris Walker (Kay), daughter Julie Hartley (Dan) both of Gainesville, GA; ten grandchildren: Julianna Hutchins, Julian Hutchins (Emily), Mary Beth Gombita (Stephen), Steve Bedford, Christy Bedford Qualle (Micah), Tim Bedford (Tona), Kit Walker IV, Reese Walker, Brandon Hartley, Olivia Hartley; stepson Randall Kanaday (Dana) and their children Alex and Lindy Kanaday, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Little & Davenport Funeral Home from 4:30-7:30 pm. The memorial service will be at First Presbyterian Church Gainesville, Ga on Monday May 18, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Shon Peppers will officiate. Interment to follow after the service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
