Geraldine Jones

Obituary Date: Thursday, May 14, 2015

          

Funeral services for Mrs. Geraldine Crowe Skinner Jones, age 86, will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Memorial Park Road in Gainesville. Dr. Jimmy M. Hope will officiate.          

Mrs. Jones died at Oxton senior Living Center in Gainesville on Thursday, May 14, 2015.        

Mrs. Jones was born in New Holland Mill Village and worked at Millikan Mill in her early life. She attended North Georgia Technical School in Clarkesville, Georgia, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a dedicated and professional nurse who served for many years at Hall County Hospital which later became Northeast Georgia Medical Center.     

She was one of three nurses at Northeast Georgia Medical Center who started the IV team concept for patient care. She was the first nurse selected for this team. She later worked with many families in the Gainesville area giving in-home nursing care as a private duty nurse.       

She married Clyde Skinner, a local insurance agent, and had two children, Judy Skinner Hope of Gainesville and Jack Skinner of Gainesville. She later married William H. “Dub” Jones of Gainesville. “Dub” Jones was a local educator who taught and coached in the Hall County School System          

Mrs. Jones was affectionately known to her family and close friends as “Mama Skinner”. This was a name she earned and cherished with her family. She was known as “best biscuit maker” anywhere and her sweet potato cobbler pie was known far and wide.        

“Mama Skinner” loved her family, loved gospel music, playing cards and bingo and crocheting. She loved her extended family and the staff at the Oxton Senior Living Center. In past years she loved traveling loved helping people especially those with health issues. She and her husband Dub were deeply involved in many community and educational activities.      

Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jimmy Hope of Gainesville and son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Joyce Skinner of Gainesville. She is also survived by the children of Dub Jones, son and daughter-in-law, Dalva and Sandra Jones of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Julie Jones of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Chester Gibson of Murrayville, daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Chip Smith of Gainesville and son, Dwight Jones of Gainesville and by their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.       

In her marriage with Clyde Skinner, they had two children, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter. In the past year Mrs. Jones was part of Five generations in her family with the addition of a great, great grandchild.        

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Skinner and husband, William H. “Dub” Jones. She was also preceded in death by her father, H.C. “Neal” Crowe and her mother, Missouri Crowe, She was also preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters who were all born in New Holland Village.

The family wishes to thank the management and staff of Oxton Senior Living Facility for the wonderful quality of life they provided to Mrs. Jones during the past year. The family would also like to thank Homestead Hospice for their excellent care and Memorial Park Funeral Home for their services.         

The family will receive visitors at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday night, May 16, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
