Mrs. Mary Helen Ayers McGee, age 98 of 1422 Fernside Drive, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015 at The Oaks at Scenic View.
A daughter of the late Dr. Clarence Landers and Helen Edwards Ayers, she was born January 10, 1917 in Stephens County, Georgia. She was a graduate of Toccoa High School and attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. She was a member of Toccoa Chapter U.D.C., former member of Toccoa Garden Club, member of First United Methodist Church, the Emma Vickery Ladies Bible Class, Altar Guild, member of UMW and the Friendship Club. She worked a number of years in the Agriculture Department in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph McGee, two brothers, Clarence Ayers, Jr. and William Ayers and by a sister, Margaret Ayers Brown.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Stephenson of Toccoa; grandchildren, David and Meg Stephenson of Gilbert, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Xander, Reese and Wesley; brother and sister-in-law, Coach Howard “Doc” Ayers and wife Glenda of Cedartown, Georgia; number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 13, 2 O’clock PM in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. John Brown and The Reverend Stephen Gower officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Jackie Whitmire, Jerry Snell, Horace Hemphill, Bill Turner, Bob Evans and Herbert Masten.
The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Stephenson and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 PM to 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 333 E. Tugalo Street, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 or the charity of one’s choice in memory of Mrs. Mary Helen Ayers McGee.
