James Welton Carpenter

Mr. James Welton Carpenter, age 91 of 1303 Shady Lane, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Stephens County Hospital.

A son of the late Harley C. and Viola Taylor Carpenter, he was born May 27, 1923 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all his life.  He was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran.  He attended Piedmont College.  He was Owner/Operator of Carpenter’s Tire Service in Toccoa, a member of Toccoa First Baptist Church, the Men’s SS Class, former choir member and very active in church activities.  He was a 50 year member of the Toccoa Lions Club.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Carpenter in 2011.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Malena and Dale Johnson and Alice and Dale Crump both of Toccoa and Amy and Phillip East of Dahlonega, Georgia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Kathy Carpenter and Ted and Yvonne Carpenter both of Toccoa; grandchildren, Erin and Mark Holbrook, Ben and Maria Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Justin and Kayla Carpenter, Grace Dubis, Bradley Dubis, Katie English, Chelsea English, Will English, Jeremiah Heaton, Kelli Heaton, Tyler Crump and Mallory Crump; great-grandchildren, Drevyn Johnson, Justin Heaton, Caleb Heaton, Emily Heaton, Lucas Holbrook, Paige Phillips, Molly Phillips, Elijah Phillips, Isaiah Long, Lillie Carpenter and Emma Carpenter; sister, Jeanette Purcell of Toccoa; number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 13, 4 O’clock PM at the First Baptist Church Memorial Chapel with The Reverend Dr. Henry Fields officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Justin Carpenter, Will English, Stephen Johnson, Ben Johnson, Dale Crump, Mark Holbrook and Dale Crump.

The family will be at the home of Malena and Dale Johnson, 349 Old Mize Road, Toccoa and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Entombment will be in Stephens Memorial Mausoleum with The Reverend David Ritcey officiating.   Acree-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Welton Carpenter.
