Melanie Elaine Garton a resident of Cumming, passed away peacefully at home late into the night on Monday, fourth of May after a long and courageous fight with breast cancer. She was born to Fred and Mary Partington, in Westhoughton, Lancashire, England.
Melanie earned a degree in education from the University of Manchester in 1970. A year later she married Stephen Garton at St. Paul's church 1971 in Nelson, Lancashire. The couple raised two sons and a daughter; Benjamin married to Jessica of Medford, MA; and Alexander of Morenci, MI; and Emily, a resident of Cumming. She had one grandson, Quinlan Miles.
She was a schoolteacher and educator. She was an active member, for more than thirty years, of the Soka Gakkai International, a Buddhist organization dedicated to the creation of world peace through interpersonal dialogue, based on equality and mutual respect. She was a loving compassionate woman who enjoyed the company of friends and family. She brought great courage and determination to all that she did and was an inspiration to others who knew her.
