Dorotha Jeane Whelchel Roper went on to be with our Lord on Monday, May 4th after an extended illness. She was 84 years old. Born on June 22, 1930, Mrs. Roper was a lifetime resident of Hall County. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Cassie Whelchel who were lifelong residents of Hall County and were respected residents of the County.
She was married to her lifelong husband, Wilburn L. Roper of Dawsonville for 64 years. Dorotha had a fulfilled life with many great accomplishments though out her life. She was a long time cosmetologist for 20 plus years in Gainesville and owned 3 very successful shops and was well known and admired for her great work.
In 1972, when her twins were born, she devoted her life to them focusing on being the best mother and wife. She truly was the best mother and wife, always putting her needs last. Many years later, having a love for meeting and talking to people, she went back into the work force as an insurance agent where she served most of the Georgia area.
Dorotha is survived by her husband Wilburn L. Roper of Gainesville; daughter and son in law, Michelle Saladin and David and her only precious granddaughter, Alexis of Gainesville; daughter and son in law, Michea Papp and Mark of Gainesville; sisters, Robbie Stephens of Gainesville, Inez Thurmond of Gainesville, brother, Tommy “Buddy” Whelchel of Gainesville; sister, Evelyn Brock of Gainesville and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, May 6th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home. The Funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7th at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.
She will be greatly missed.
