William (Bill) Eugene Brake died on April 25, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on January 22, 1931, in Washington, Georgia, to Julia and Jeff Brake. He attended Presbyterian College, prior to joining the Navy, in February 1951. He served during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge. Upon his discharge he attended the University of Georgia earning a B.S. and M.S. in Education. Over his 30-year career he coached at Dykes, Sylvan and Roosevelt High schools. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. After retiring he became member of the Atlanta Senior Golf Association, achieving five holes-in-one. He was a lifelong supporter of the University of Georgia.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Ann Van Deventer, daughters Donna Goode (Bill) and Mary Ann Brake, granddaughter Taylor Ann Barndt. He was preceded in death by siblings Thomas, Charles and Louise.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, May 2, 2015 in the chapel of McDonald and Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday May 2, from 10:00am until service time.
