Charles Monkus, 85, of Nicholls formerly of Gainesville passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Born on October 7, 1929, he was the son of the late Charlie and Lelia Buchanan Monkus.
Mr. Monkus was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was a retired self-employed truck driver. Mr. Monkus was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Waldroup Monkus; three brothers, Jack, Ed and Clyde Monkus; two sisters, Vera Howard and Opal Sewell.
Mr. Monkus is survived by one daughter, Joan Elrod Laughlin and son-in-law, Donald Laughlin of Nicholls; three grandsons and their wives, Charles Keith and Stacey Elrod, Kevin Dewayne and Holly Elrod, Christopher Kenneth and Pam Elrod all of Nicholls; six great grandchildren, Stephanie Elrod, Jake Elrod, Drew Elrod, Gabe Elrod, Conley Harkleroad and Allison Elrod; three sisters-in-law, Alice Hilton, Elizabeth Monkus, Virginia Cooper; one brother, Percival Monkus and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Campbell will officiate. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 30, 2015 4:00 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m.
