Robert J. Malone

Robert J Malone , age 89 , of Atlanta , Ga. , passed away on Wednesday , April 22, 2015 at Embracing Hospice , Cumming Ga.

Born April 25, 1925 in Brooklyn , NY to John Joseph Malone and Helen Keating Malone ( “ Nell “ ). Bob joined the Navy right out of high school to serve in the pacific theater aboard the naval destroyer USS COLLETT, during World War 2 . He returned home after the war and met Doris Urgo . He Graduated from Washington College and married Doris in June 1948 .His was transferred to Atlanta 2 years later and settled in the Brookhaven area .Bob was a member of Our Lady of Assumption parish where he coached the football team in the Catholic parochial league ( CYO ) during the 50’s and 60 ‘s. He also was a volunteer coach at Marist High School , from the early downtown campus days till after the move to Ashford Dunwoody .Bob was always proud of his Navy heritage and remained active at Navy reunions around the country with his shipmates he served with .

Survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris and their 3 children, daughter Patricia and her husband Jack Cartwright , son Tim Malone and his wife Kathy and son Kevin Malone and his wife Sidni as well as 7 grandsons , 3 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter.

Robert had a passion for sports , as referenced with his years coaching . It was comforting to him for years after retiring to still be affectionately called “ coach “ by all those young men who had now grown up and had families of their own . Bob was gregarious by nature and loved to interact with people. This was evident with his sales career in various industries. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and forever a Notre Dame football fan. Bob loved his family and his life centered around family gatherings. these “ get togethers “ , whatever the occasion , were the highlight of his life. He will be dearly missed by all his family and all those who knew him.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. The family will hold a visitation from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Byars Funeral Home in Cumming, GA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in Mr. Malone’s memory to The St. Vincent de Paul society Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 1350 Hearst Dr. NE, Atlanta, GA, 30319 or to the Alzheimers Association online at m.alz.org.
