James Edward Joy

James Edward Joy, born March 18, 1924 to the late Fred and Addie Mayone West Joy in Boyles-Jefferson County Alabama. Moving to Gainesville in his teen years where he has lived until his passing.

Mr. Joy went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3, 2015 at his residence.  He was a World War II Veteran who was a gunner and signalman on the U.S.S. Cossatot A077. Mr. Joy served his country well. He was a member of the Georgia Masons for over 60 years being with the Gainesville Lodge #219 for the life of his membership.

He was a co-owner of Joy Brothers Produce for a number of years until the untimely death of brother, Tom Joy. He was later to retire from Wright and Lopez.

Mr. Joy was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years Edith Medlin Joy; 2 sons, Danny B. Joy and Michael D. Joy; a grandson, William Taylor “Buck” Cantrell and great granddaughter, Destiny Moses.

A Full military service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  The Rev. Paul Flynn will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, April 6 from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Veterans are asked to assemble 30 minutes prior to service as well as Masons.
