Donald Lee Southerland

Donald Lee Southerland, age 78 of Kennesaw, GA passed away on February 8, 2015.

Don was born in Habersham County, Georgia in 1936. He graduated from North Habersham High School in 1954. He served four years in the US Navy before attending Young Harris College and the University of Georgia. In 1975, he moved to Juneau, Alaska. While in Juneau, he served for thirty years as an instructor of Accounting at the University of Alaska, Southeast. He is fondly remembered by family and friends as an outgoing and gregarious man who celebrated life. He particularly loved UGA football, reading, fishing, and cross-country trips with his friend Callaway Grant.

He is survived by children Lisa Southerland Coleman (husband Scott) of Woodstock, Georgia; Donna Southerland of Douglas, Alaska. Grandchildren Lauren, Matthew, and Christina Coleman of Woodstock, Georgia; Cody, Chance, and Brynlee Adams of Douglas, Alaska; sisters, Gail Forrester (husband Bron) of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Martha Byers (husband Morris) of Laurinburg, NC; nephews and nieces Steven Forrester of Demorest, Georgia; Karen Forrester of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Michael Byers of Wilmington, NC; Matthew Byers of Angier, NC.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville, Georgia on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 PM until the service begins.
