A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in the Chapel of Gainesville First United Methodist Church. Dr. Terry Walton will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.

Mrs. Carter was born May 22, 1920 in Hartwell, Georgia, daughter of the late Fletcher Howell and Lucy Rebecca Martin Howell. She was a member of the Open Door Sunday School class. She spent countless hours in the church nursery program, was involved in helping with Vacation Bible School and the MYF.

In the community she was a volunteer with the Medical Center Auxiliary until the age of 80 and with Meals on Wheels until the age of 90.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Alston Bradley (Buddy) Carter, her parents; sister, Opal McCurley; brothers, Robert Howell and Emmitt Howell; grandsons, Jason Bradley Carter and Fletcher Alston Carter, Jr.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fletcher and Linda Carter of Dawsonville; daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Dick Baxter of Gainesville; grandchildren and spouses, Catherine and Ryan Casper, Hannah and Gabe Espinoza all of Gainesville; Joseph and Sabrina Carter of Dawsonville; Mary Baxter, John Baxter, Sarah Elizabeth Baxter all of Gainesville; and 11 great-grandchildren; and special nieces.
