Freddie Ray Blake

Obituary Date: Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Freddie Ray Blake was born July 18, 1938 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to the Late Frank Blake Sr. and Esther Victoria Blake. He attended Central High School and Grambling University where he majored in Physical Education. After moving to New York, he met and married the love of his life Shirley. Out of their union emerged six children who ultimately transformed his life. Out of his six children, Wayne was a gift from God.

Freddie was a hard, dedicated and loyal worker. He worked in the garment district, United States Postal Service and New York City Transit Authority where he retired.

Freddie loved the Lord and served God with his whole heart, mind, and soul. At a young age he was christened at Asbury United Methodist Church in Natchitoches, Louisiana. When Freddie transitioned to Gainesville Georgia he was afforded the most humbling experience of his life-uniting with Antioch Baptist Church being baptized and mentored under the late Rev. C.C. Cloud, continued shepherding by Pastor Rodney A. Lackey, Sr. At Antioch Freddie served in many capacities that includes: Trustee, Deacon, Usher, layman and at the Food Bank. Not only did he serve at church, Freddie also went above and beyond in his community helping anyone in need from mowing a lawn, saving cans for the homeless to frying his infamous turkeys. Freddie never met a stranger and never turned anyone away. The love he had for his fellow man could only be shared through the love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Freddie would often cite his favorite scripture Philippians 4:13"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".

Preceding Freddie in death is his parents Frank and Esther Blake, his son Butch, brothers: Wayne Charles Blake Sr., Marvin Kirby Blake and Frank Blake Jr.

Freddie leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Shirley, sons: Larry and Mark, daughters: Monika and Robin, his gift from God Wayne, devoted son-n-law Tony; 7 grand children Davida, Saadia, Cherea, David, Dane', Anasa, Joshua; 8 great-grandchildren: Kiasha, DeJon, Nya, Dominique, Shareena, Carl, Frederika, Trace; 2 great-great grandchildren: Aaliyah and Kendale Jr.; 3 brothers Donnie (Brenda), Carvin, Terry (Mary); 2 sisters Oletha (Calvin), Diane (Kelvin); 3 sister-n-laws Woogie, Rose, Barbara; 2 brother-n-laws James and George; 2 aunts Gladys and Doris and he was also loved by an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted daughters and sons, too many to name. He loved them all and each one felt that they were his favorite.

Freddie had an enormous blessing of Family and Friends!
