Eleanor Harris passed away on March 15, 2015 at the skilled nursing area of Lanier Village Estates after an extended illness. Eleanor was born September 27. 1927 in Simpson, Pa. She attended Fell township High School. She was the daughter of the late Kathryn and Alex Sakowych. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph and sister, Stella.
She is survived by her husband Vladimir Harris (also known as Val) with whom she was married to for 65 years of marriage. She is also survived by a brother Stanley Sakowych and a sister Sonja Witham.
Eleanor worked while Val was going to college after World War II. She loved to tell everyone when Val received his diploma from Lehigh University; I also received a diploma inside his. It was for a PHT, Pushed Husband Through.
Val accepted a job as an Engineer with Standard Oil of Indiana and Amoco. She also told everyone I could not work because we moved 22 times, the last two times were three years in Italy and four years in Spain. She had to learn Italian and Spanish.
We moved to Lake Wylie, SC after Val retired. We spent 28 years in Lake Wylie and were members of the River Hills Community Church and the River Hills Country Club. She was a good golfer. We moved to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Ga in January of 2014 and it was a blessing because of the wonderful care she received. She told me many times during my daily visits we had a wonderful life.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday March 21, 2015 at the chapel in Lanier Village Estates. Rev, Richard Evans Chaplain will lead the service.
