Nora Bridges Tolbert

Mrs. Nora Elizabeth Bridges Tolbert passed away on March 9, 2015. Born in Talmo, GA, on September 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Mae Taylor and Thomas Clifford Bridges. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred William Tolbert, and brothers, Willis Bridges and Howard Bridges.



Mrs. Tolbert graduated from Martin Institute and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She and her husband owned Tabo's Food Store in Jefferson for 25 years. Mrs. Tolbert was a member of The First Baptist Church of Jefferson where she played the piano for the children's Sunday School for many years. She was an avid bridge player, an excellent cook, and enjoyed working on the archives with the Jackson County Historical Society.



Survivors include her daughter, Beth Carter (Dan), Baldwin; and son, Fred (Becky), Marietta. Grandchildren, Betsy Carter, Fayston Vermont; Joe Carter, Jefferson; Sarah Carter, Jefferson; Anna (Ted) Wood, Marietta; and Claire Tolbert, Birmingham, Alabama; Great Granddaughter, Emma Carter, Jefferson.



Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of Jefferson, with Dr. Michael Helms officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall, Saturday, March 14 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. before the service.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First Baptist Church Building Renovation Project Fund, First Baptist Church, 246 Washington Street, Jefferson, GA 30549.
