Genus Kilby Nixon

Genus Kilby Nixon, 101, of the Persimmon Community passed away at her residence Monday, February 16, 2015.



She was a lifelong resident of Rabun County and was the daughter of George Washington Kilby and Altha Justus Kilby.



In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Grady Nixon, and siblings, Gladys Nichols, Ferd Kilby, Gertrude Keener, Famous Kilby, Farish Kilby, Geneva Nichols, George Filmer Kilby, and Zona Kilby.



Mrs. Nixon is survived by one son, Jim Nixon and his wife Louise of the Persimmon Community; two grandchildren, Tom Nixon and his wife Kelly of the Persimmon Community, Suzanne Nixon Flaherty and husband Steve of Gig Harbor, WA; her youngest sister, Bonnie Kilby Lee of Columbia, SC; great grandchildren, Samuel Flaherty, Sean Flaherty, Christopher Peeples, and Brendan Peeples. A multitude of nieces and nephews also survive.



She was a faithful member of Persimmon Church of God, Persimmon Homemakers Club, and the Warmth From Heaven Mission. She enjoyed music including playing the piano, flowers and gardening. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved life and everyone. She cared for God above all things and made sure that the greatest care went into everything she did.



The family will receive friends from 1 PM to 3 PM, Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Persimmon Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted following visitation at 3 PM at Persimmon Church of God with Pastor Teddy King and Pastor Glenville Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Rabun Memory Park Cemetery.
