Mr. J. Rufus Smallwood, 93 of Fayetteville formerly of Gainesville died Friday February 6, 2014 at Azalea Estates Assisted Living in Fayetteville.
Born in Hall County, Mr. Smallwood was the son of the late Lonnie and Cynthia O'Kelly Smallwood. Mr. Smallwood had served in the United States Navy during World War II and was retired from General Motors. He was a member of the Flowery Branch Masonic Lodge #212 F & AM.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Smallwood, Fayetteville; sons, William E. Smallwood, Fayetteville; Benny Smallwood, Dahlonega; step children, Angela Ledbetter, Woolsey; Timothy Gilstrap, McDonough; Terry Gilstrap, Gainesville; grandchildren, Pavon Bohanan, Gainesville; Robert Smallwood, Jr., Rome; Staci Miller, Mableton; William E. Smallwood, II, Smyrna; Brandalyn Root, Dahlonega; Heather Bradley, Dahlonega; Blondean Corey, Cumming; Christy Parker, Charlotte, NC; Sarah Smallwood, Dahlonega; Molly Smallwood, Dahlonega; step grandchildren, Zach Ledbetter, Woolsey; Hannah Ledbetter, Woolsey and Phillip Gilstrap, Gainesville. 14 great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Smallwood is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Blondean Smallwood; son, Robert D. Smallwood and granddaughter, Cindy Smallwood.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday February 10, 2014 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Lewis and Rev. J.D. Sosebee will officiate. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday February 9, 2014 from 6-8 p.m.
