Mr. John Coker Cagle passed away on Wednesday February 4, 2014 at his residence in Gainesville at the age of 89.
He is survived by his wife, Eliza Athon Cagle, daughter, Tami Bond, son, John Athon Cagle, wife, Nancy, grandson, Zackery Stanfield, wife Ana, six grandchildren, brother, Robert A. Cagle, nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.
Mr. Cagle was appointed Postmaster in 1957 at Jasper, Georgia. In 1973, he was appointed Postmaster at Gainesville, GA. In 1977, he was promoted to Sectional Center Manager at Raleigh, NC. During this time he was sent to Birmingham, Alabama and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In 1980, he was Acting District Manager of Greater Wisconsin District in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Mr. Cagle ended his Postal career in 1985 as District Manager of the State of Oklahoma and Pan-Handle of Texas. His management responibilities consisted of 764 U.S. Post Offices and 11,000 employees. Mr. Cagle was a "giver" not a "taker" and until the end he proved that by offering his body to Emory University.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday February 8, 2015 in the Little & Davenport Funeral Home Chapel. The family will hold a visitation at the funeral home Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour.
