Margaret J. Williams

Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 28, 2015
Margaret J. Williams, 92, of Gainesville, GA passed away on January 28, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. "Bill" Williams; parents, Robert and Margaret Jones; granddaughter, Gena Inez Portwood; and 4 siblings, Robert, Ross, Jimmy, and Mable.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Becky Portwood of Cleveland, GA; daughter, Connie Williams Case of Cumming, GA; step-daughter, Pat (Al) Fernety of Conyers, GA; granddaughter, Lindsey (Chris) Perry; grandson, Cory Case, great-granddaughter, Lucy Claire Perry; step-grandchildren, Greg Alford and Ken Atha, Jr., numerous nieces, nephews, and her loving companion, Al Hendley of Gainesville, GA.

Margaret was born in Eufala, AL and moved with her family to various cities in Alabama, and then to Atlanta, where she attended Commercial High School. After marrying, she enjoyed her job as wife and mother, and when her youngest child was in high school she then ventured into the working world. Her last place of employment was Rich's South DeKalb Mall, where she enjoyed her fellow employees, customers, and that discount! Margaret loved dancing, bowling, and socializing with her friends.

When her husband Bill retired from Ford Motor Company, they built a home on Lake Lanier and remained there for the rest of their lives. They both enjoyed the peace and tranquility of lake life. She especially loved their pontoon boat and many days were spent with the family on the boat, swimming and relaxing. She really liked working in the yard, and her lovely azalea garden at the front of the house was a special pride and joy. The leaf blower became Margaret's favorite yard tool in the continuous battle of the falling leaves. She also enjoyed baking and making fudge, divinity and other goodies at Christmas for many years, and shared them with neighbors and friends.

She loved all of her grandchildren and was always available for babysitting. She was especially happy to meet her first great grandchild last fall. There was always a dog in the household, all of whom received special love and attention. Margaret was a caring, compassionate, and generous lady, who would do anything for anyone, and was loved by everyone who met her.

Graveside Services will be held at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 2:15 pm. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:00
