Thomas Alan Denny

Obituary Date: Monday, January 26, 2015



Thomas Alan Denny, age 47, passed away at his home in Clermont, Georgia on Monday, January 26, 2015 due to a terminal illness. He was surrounded by his family including his loving wife, Tina. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert J. Denny

Thomas was born in Geneva, Ohio where he resided until moving to Georgia during his senior year of high school.

Thomas was a combat veteran. He joined the United States Army at the age of 18. Once he completed his three years of duty, he joined the Army National Guard where he served for almost 9 years. The Gainesville Unit was called to active duty in 2005 during Operation Enduring Freedom. The Infantry Unit was deployed to Iraq from May of 2005 until April of 2006. Thankfully Thomas made it home safely.

Thomas received a Management and Supervisory Development Diploma from Lanier Technical College. Thomas worked at Matthews Printing Company, Gainesville and then NOK of Cleveland, Georgia through Spherion Staffing. He had a CDL license. Thomas worked at K Supply until August of 2014.

Thomas loved hunting deer, fishing, camping, and the outdoors in general. He loved reading and playing his PS3. He played softball for the American Cancer Society Team in Hall County. He was on the Cancer Commando Team for the Banks County Relay For Life in 2012. Thomas was always helping others and expected nothing in return. He loved his family more than anything. He loved entertaining children, especially his grandchildren.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Tina Maynor-Denny of Clermont; daughter and son-in-law, Journie and Tony McCarthy of Waverly; daughter and son-in-law, Emily Sheree and Justin Ingram of Gainesville; stepson, Shon Gowan of Clermont; and grandchildren, Remington McCarthy, Havalyn Ingram, and Makenna Ingram. In addition, he leaves behind his mother, Carol Denny of Clermont; brother, Brian Denny of Clermont; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and David Ivester of Cleveland; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive visitors at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel 4:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, January 28, 2015.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel. Reverend John Garrett will officiate. Internment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
