Mrs. Gloria Mae (Poore) Kemp passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Kemp was born August 15th, 1931 to the late Garland and Lillie Mae (Parks) Poore. She is preceded in death by her husband , Joe Terrell (Sonny) Kemp; son, Sammy Kemp; son in law, Jerry Burruss; and brothers, Lewis Craig Poore and Clifton Ray Poore.
Mrs. Kemp is survived by friend and companion, Bob Poore; friends and caregivers, Ray Carroll and Debbie Ellis, Amy Landers, one sister, Maxie Keith; daughter and son in law, Sandra and David Dorsey; daughters Peggy Kemp and Stacy Kemp; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kemp was well known in the Murrayville area for her many business ventures beginning in the 1950's with a general store located at what is now known as the Sonny Kemp intersection, the Silver Moon Café located next to the Murrayville Post Office, Murrayville's first fast food restaurant known as the Murray Burger located in front of Fieldale on Highway 60, the Village Pantry, a convenience store which was housed where Mrs. Kemp began her last venture known as the Village Flea Market located in downtown Murrayville.
Mrs. Kemp leaves an incredible mark on the little town of Murrayville and a legacy of hard work and perseverance which she diligently instilled in her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 26th, 2015 in the chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home with Carl Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 25th from 5 until 8 p.m. and again Monday from 11 am until service time at the funeral home.
