Richard Lee Hester "Poppy" of Flowery Branch Georgia, died January 21, 2015 at his home in Flowery Branch surrounded by his family.
He was born in Los Angeles California on January 28, 1927. Richard grew up in Southern California, he served in the United States Army and received his Engineering degree from the University of Southern California.
He worked many years for GTE in regulatory affairs and other leadership positions. He spent most of his life in Southern California until he retired in 1992 to Gainesville, Georgia on Lake Lanier where he spent most of his summers and winter vacations watching his 9 grandchildren flourish. He was a kind, gentle and generous man who touched everyone he came in contact with.
He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Sandi; Daughters and their spouses: Kimberlee and Paul Esaki from Moorpark Ca., Katie and Douglas Carswell from Oakwood Ga., Karen and Ward Daniels from Cedar Rapids, Ia. and Grandchildren: Trevor, Phillip and Erin Esaki, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Timothy Carswell and Katie, John and Becky Daniels, and 2 great granddaughters.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Feb. 6th at 2:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville, Ga., with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Grace Episcopal Church, Hospice of North East Georgia or Eagle Ranch (EagleRanch.org).
