John D. Jack Webb

Mr. John D. "Jack" Webb, age 85 of Toccoa passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at his residence.

A son of the late James Laverne and Rosemary Kelly Webb, he was born February 18, 1929 in Meridian, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise. After attending Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama in 1947, he joined the United States Marine Corps, A Korean War Veteran, a Logistics and Chemical, Biological and Radiologist specialist retiring in 1968 as MSGT (E-8). He was a charter member of the Currahee Marine Corps League, American Legion and Life Member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Prior to coming to Toccoa in 1973, he was Director, Property Administration, Sea Pines Plantation in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Due to a lack of a middle school on Hilton Head, he came to Toccoa and started a One Hour Martinizing Franchise Professional Dry Cleaning Service and Laundrymat. He operated the business for 35 years until 2008.

Jack has continually supported local schools, Rotary Club and has been an active member of the Chamber of Commerce for over 30 years. A past President of the Rotary Club, he is also a Paul Harris Fellow Benefactor.
For many years, he served as Ribbon Cutting Chairman for the Chamber. He was committed to making sure new businesses in Toccoa felt welcomed and supported. He had worked extensively with the Dialysis Center, providing assistance with the Hispanic speaking patients providing reading material and providing needed moral support and liaison between patients and staff.

He was the recipient of the Senior Award, the Volunteer of the Year Award and the Chairman Award. A past President of the Yonah Community Choir, he was also a member of the Rotary Quartet. Mr. Webb has mentored local students at the Whitman Street Center providing moral and financial support. He was a past President of the Stephens County Athletic Booster Club in Toccoa, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Toccoa. He is a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of the home, June Donofry Webb; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Kaymel Webb of Toccoa and Douglas and Eileen Webb of FlourTown, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Joshua, Jennifer and Shannon Bigham, Katie Webb and Chris Morley; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, Thomas Donofry of Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday, January 24, 11 O'clock AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Vincent Sullivan officiating.

Flowers are to be omitted. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 231 Rothell Road Extension, Toccoa, Georgia in memory of Mr. John "Jack" Webb.
