Dr. Dorothy Lloyd Brown

Dr. Dorothy Lloyd Brown, 79, of Marble Hill, formerly of Dekalb County, passed away Wednesday January 14, 2015 following a period of declining health.
Born February 3, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Oren and Roberta "Bobbie" Lloyd, she lived in Dekalb County over 45 years before moving to Dawson County. She earned her Doctorate Degree in Secondary Education from Georgia State University and taught in the Dekalb County School System for many years. After leaving the classroom, she worked at the administrative level until her retirement. Dr. Brown played string bass with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the 1970's and 1980's. She was very active in the Atlanta Balalaika Society, was very committed to and a staunch supporter of her faith, education and music. Until her health prevented it, she was an avid traveler.
Surviving are her children, Mark and Kathy Brown, New York, Monica and Tom Powell, Marble Hill, Bethany and Fr. Luke Mihaly, Danbury, CT; sisters and brother in law, Marjorie Guezen, Detroit, Barbara and Brian Menlen, Kalamazoo; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, a nephew and many Godchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 21, 2015 at 11 o'clock at the Monastery of the Glorious Ascension, 5052 South Dixie Highway, Resaca, GA 30721. Fr. Luke Mihaly will officiate. Interment will follow on the Monastery grounds.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 8 at the funeral home.
