Dorothea Margaret Diehl Cotter

Dorothea Margaret Diehl Cotter, age 89, of Gainesville Ga, formerly of Bedford PA and North Fort Myers FL died Sunday, January 4, 2015. She was born March 19, 1925, the daughter of Clarence Abram and Mary Justina Bittinger Diehl. On September 27, 1958 she married Leo Joseph Cotter who preceded her in death on December 12, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clarence A. Diehl, whose widow, Charlotte and several nieces and nephews survive.
Dorothea attended the Bedford schools and was a graduate of Peirce Business School, and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she was captain of the rifle team and President of Sigma Theta Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority.
Mrs. Cotter was employed as secretary to The Honorable J. Colvin Wright, President Judge of the Superior court of Pennsylvania for 27 years. She then retired after working 10 years as a secretary at Kennametal, Inc. From 1985 to 2001, with her husband, she was a FEMA reservist traveling all over the United States to work in federal emergency disaster recovery centers.
She was a member of St. Michael's R.C. Church Gainesville, GA, American Legion Auxiliary Post 113 Bedford PA, the Pioneer Historical Society of Bedford County and was active for many years in Bedford as a 4-H Horse and Pony Club Leader, secretary of Business and Professional Women, secretary for the Bedford Halloween Parade Committee, American Association of University Women and the Republican Women's club. While living in Gainesville, Dorothea kept active as a member of the Red Hat Society and the BULLI program of Brenau University.
