Lt. Col. Harry Lee Wise, Jr., age 80 of Riverdale Road, Toccoa passed away Sunday January 4, 2015 at Emory Hospital.
The son of the late Harry Lee Wise, Sr. and Anna Maude Harmon Wise, he was born July 21, 1934 in Gordon County, Georgia having lived in Toccoa for the last 26 years.
He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a Die-hard Georgia Bulldog Fan. He was a retired Lt. Col. of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War as well as other tours in service. He was Director of the Stephens County Department of Family and Children Services and was responsible for care and protection of many children in Stephens and surrounding counties. He was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry, a former member of the Toccoa Rotary Club and a member of the V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Ledford Wise of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Clarissa and Michael Knight of Savannah, Georgia and Susan Wise of Calhoun, Georgia; sons and daughter-in-law, Harry L. Wise, III and Pam of Huntsville, Alabama and Russell Wise of Spartanburg, South Carolina; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Doug Wingeier of Lake Junaluska, North Carolina.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday January 7, 11 AM at St. Matthias Episcopal Church with The Very Reverend Mary Demmler, The Reverend Ken Struble and The Reverend Dr. Henry Fields officiating. The family will receive friends at St. Matthias Church Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the service time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Lt. Col. Harry Lee Wise, Jr.
Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Georgia National Guard Honor Guard.
