Marilyn Ann Schroer

Obituary Date: Saturday, December 20, 2014
Marilyn Ann Schroer, 79, passed peacefully on December 20, 2014.

She was born to the late Melvin Schroer and Margaret J. Pierce on Nov. 23, 1935, in Hammond, Indiana, and was adopted and raised by the late Edmund and Florence Schroer. Marilyn graduated from Hammond High School in 1953 and received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Music Education from Pennsylvania State College in 1957.

Marilyn was an elementary school teacher for several years and continued her education in teaching by receiving a Masters of Education degree from the University of Georgia in 1973. Marilyn was an accomplished musician and taught piano, voice and drum lessons to her students during her teaching career.

As an accomplished intellectual, Marilyn continued to pursue her education and received a Masters in Social Work from the University of Georgia in 1975. Marilyn helped thousands of people in her career as a licensed clinical social worker, hospital social worker, home health care social worker, and Division of Family and Children Services case manager. Marilyn retired from social work in 1997 in Hartwell, Georgia.

While living in Hartwell, Marilyn was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and was the pianist for the Church. Alongside Marilyn's love for music, she loved creating art by painting, sketching and creating beautiful pottery in her spare time. Her love for art began when she studied art in Cortona, Italy in her earlier life.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her life partner and best friend, Dr. Ruth E. Weber, her adoptive parents Edmund and Florence Schroer and her brother Edmund A. Schroer. Marilyn is survived by her three children and their families: J. Benton Jones, III, and Dr. Susan Cadwallader of Seal Beach, California, Karin and Keith Poole and their family of Anderson, SC, and Kristin and Raymond Joyner of Cumming, Georgia and their children, Marilynn Joyner of Washington, D.C. and Ray Joyner of Athens, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to Sawnee Woman's Club at PO Box 2793 in Cumming, Georgia, 30028. Marilyn will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was all of our favorite liberal.

Private services will be held at a later date.
