Mr. Howard Lamar Simmons, age 83 of 1267 Brookhaven Circle, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
A son of the late Rufus and Minnie Norton Simmons, he was born March 29, 1931 in Banks County, Georgia having lived most of his life in Stephens County. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War, retired from Patterson Pump and member and Deacon of Mullins Ford Baptist Church where he and his wife Mildred taught Sunday School.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Mildred Pressley Simmons; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Randy Collins of Toccoa, Georgia and Ericha and Keith Lewis of Thomasville, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, James and Cricket Simmons of Toccoa, Georgia; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Jordan of Homer, Georgia.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 20, 2 O'clock PM at Mullins Ford Baptist Church with the Reverend Joey Stewart officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Bradley Elrod, Shane Barrett, James Parker, James Childers, Robert Mac Russell and Wayne Stancil. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Dye, Denman McFarlin and Steve Davenport.
The family will be at the home on Brookhaven Circle and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday, 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM.
Interment will be in the Mullins Ford Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by the Georgia National Guard Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 4346. Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Howard Lamar Simmons.
