Linda Cooper

Linda Cooper, 77, of Gainesville passed away Saturday Evening, December 6, 2014 at her residence following an extended illness.

A small service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 at the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road in Gainesville. Reverend Drewery Loggins will officiate. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 10 - 11 am, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cooper was born Dec. 4, 1937 in Jackson, Mississippi, to the late Excel and Carra Smith White. She was retired from a long career in the field of economic development, where she was instrumental in getting funding for health departments, senior citizen centers, day care centers and other community projects in her beloved Georgia Mountains. In retirement, Mrs. Cooper loved shopping for antiques - and for almost anything else - and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She traveled extensively in the U.S., but always enjoyed visiting Hawaii the most. In her last years, she always wished for one more trip to Hawaii, so her ashes will make the return journey with her oldest daughter.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her longtime companion, Robert Kidd of Gainesville; three daughters - Judith Hodge of Honolulu, Hawaii; Teresa K. Weaver of Atlanta; and Sandy Weaver of Suwanee - and a sister, Gloria White Duddlesten of Texarkana, Texas. She had three grandchildren - Piper Boswell of Miami, Florida; Ryan Dyson of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Whitney Moody of Honolulu - and seven great-grandchildren. She adored them all.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either of Mrs. Cooper's favorite organizations: Annandale Village in Suwanee or Habitat for Humanity.
