Harley Bennett
Obituary Date: Sunday, December 7, 2014
Harley Bennett, age 86, of Silver City, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
He will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Jean Bennett; children Steve & Pam Bennett, Sandra Bennett, Scott & Lisa Bennett, Spencer & Karen Bennett , all of Cumming and Stacy and Paul Whitmire of Clermont, GA; sister Eloise Mason, brother Junior & Patsy Bennett; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
He was never happier than when he was surrounded by his large, boisterous family who felt that Papa Harley's home was their home. He enjoyed the sounds of laughter, conversations, grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing around him. Harley was well known for his story telling and sense of humor. Even in his last days, he was telling humorous stories to the many family and friends who came to see him. He welcomed friends and visitors always and said to "turn no one away". He and Jean had a long, happy marriage. He made a living by farming and trained his children to work hard. His children would say they were driving trucks and birthing calves before they were teenagers. Truly an honor to have known and loved him.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 9th, at 11:00 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church with the Pastor Emeritus Rubin Smith and Dr. Scott Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
