Dr. Richard A. Griffin III

Dr. Richard A. Griffin III, MD passed away Saturday, November 29, 2014. Richard was born June 29, 1936 in Gainesville, Georgia to Richard and Sharley Fay Griffin. He grew up in Dahlonega, Georgia. He was a graduate of Lumpkin County High School, North Georgia College and the Medical College of Georgia. After medical school, he married Kathy Davison of Augusta, Georgia and had 3 children. He moved his family to Cartersville, Georgia and created a medical practice "Surgical Associates". Later in life he married Susie Mckinnon and lived in Marietta. He worked as a Physician as General Surgeon and Emergency Room Physician for over 40 years. He had a distinguished career in medicine, was certified as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and also served on the board of the Medical Association of Georgia. More importantly he received numerous citations for distinguished performance, saving many lives and improving countless others. He enjoyed music, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, martial arts, and was certified as a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was passionate about hunting and being outdoors with friends and family. He will be loved and deeply missed by his family and friends.

Richard "Dickie" Griffin is survived by his wife Susie Griffin, son Richard Griffin IV (Tessa), son Carl Griffin, Sr. (Cyrise) and daughter Jennifer Griffin. Grandchildren, Taylor Woods, Sarah Griffin, and Carl Griffin, Jr., a sister Sharlene Cochran; nephew Wayne Cochran and niece Kellie Cochran. Stepchildren, Wes Mckinnon (Tammy), Carter McKinnon ( Anne), David Mckinnon, Clay Mckinnon (Claire), as well as numerous step grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday December 3rd, 2014 from 12 until 2pm. Funeral Service will be at Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel at 2pm. Internment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega.
